What happens during your Reflexology treatment?
When you attend your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a new client form. This form gathers important information about your health, diet, lifestyle, any recent or long-standing illnesses, medications you’re taking, and your reason for seeking reflexology. This process helps us make the most of our time together while identifying any potential contra-indications. Rest assured, all your personal data is handled in strict compliance with GDPR and remains completely confidential.
Your first session will be both exploratory and therapeutic, covering all body systems. This helps me identify any imbalances and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
We’ll begin with gentle relaxation techniques to prepare the body and open the reflexes. I’ll then apply light, precise pressure using my fingers and thumbs to work through the reflex points.
Most clients find the treatment deeply relaxing and many drift off to sleep. Some areas in your feet may feel tender or slightly uncomfortable, which can indicate an imbalance in those reflexes.
Is Reflexology painful?
Reflexology is generally a very gentle and relaxing therapy, though you may occasionally feel some discomfort when I work on areas that are out of balance. These sensations are often described as “grainy” or “crystal-like” under the surface. As these areas are worked, the texture typically softens, supporting your body’s natural ability to rebalance and restore a sense of wellbeing.
Is there anything I need to know before treatment?
To ensure a comfortable and effective treatment, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- For hygiene purposes, please ensure your feet are clean prior to your session.
- Wear comfortable clothing to ensure ease during your treatment.
- Please refrain from consuming alcohol or caffeine before your session for the best experience.
- If you are a smoker, kindly avoid smoking for at least one hour before your treatment.
- When treating children under 16, a parent or guardian must remain in the room throughout the session.
Is there anything I need to know after my Reflexology Treatment?
Following your session, you may feel deeply relaxed, sleepy, calm or even energised. It’s also completely normal to experience something reflexologist refer to as a healing reaction. This is your body’s natural response to releasing toxins and may include feeling tired, thirsty or even cause a mild headache or nausea. These responses are normal and usually pass within 24 hours.
To support your body after your treatment:
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
- Rest if you need to
- Avoid heavy meals, alcohol or caffeine for the rest of the day
- Give yourself time to unwind and enjoy the benefits
